Hi All,
I am in closed work permit which is valid until 2020 and I moved in Oct 2018. Now my company is telling they are closing the Canadian Entity. So will my work permit get canceled? or shall I stay until its validity? If not how long will I can stay legally in Canada?
Please help me with your answers.

Yes, it gets canceled. You will have to leave within 30 days of youyour last day of work to avoid any complications to your future applications.
If you are not ready to leave, you should apply for change of status to visitor or apply a new work permit with a different employer.
Have you considered PR?
Thanks Andy for the reply.
Changing the status to Visitor how it will help me can you pls explain?
If I apply for PR shall I continue my stay here?

You can't work so it would be up to you and whether you have the funds to support yourself. Not sure why you would want to stay.
My husband is in Open work permit and he is working and so I can manage myself Financially. That's why I am asking.
thanks for your reply

Depending on the province you live in you may not be entitled to health insurance because sounds like you won't be working for 6 months. Companies usually don't inform IRCC that they are closing down so you won't be working there. Also don't know if they ever audit people an call their employers. Not sure what would happen in these cases.
