Hello All,
I have been a PR since two years. I need to apply a TRV for my fiancee so she can fly with me to Canada as soon as we are married. Once she lands here, I would like to apply for her dependent PR from here in Toronto.
Here's the purpose of visit we are planning to mention.

To attend two conferences held in Toronto.
  • Orientation for MBA aspirants in York University.
  • Attend a business workshop
She has an invite and passes for both these seminars. The registration for both was free.
Does the Visa Officer check if these events are free registration events?
Could somebody shed some light on what are our chances or getting her TRV approved?

Any suggestions on how I can strengthen my application are welcome and much appreciated.

Saying that she is attending an MBA orientation session for York University will make it look like she has plans on remaining in Canada long term. I wouldn't use this as a reason - this will likely weaken the application. Attending a business workshop is only a good reason to give if her employer in her home country is sending her to Canada to attend the workshop.

To be approved, she needs to demonstrate strong ties to her home country to demonstrate that she has no plans on remaining in Canada long term. Strong ties are things like employment, property and other assets.

Hi Scylla,
Thanks for the quick response. Your suggestion on MBA makes sense to me now. As far as connection with home country is concerned, she is an IT employee and can produce
  • A proof of employment
  • An e-mail from colleague approving her vacation.
  • An e-mail from her colleague asking her to attend the workshop on behalf of her company.
  • A rental agreement from the rental agent of house she is living in India.
Would that make a strong connection to home country?

Yet again unless company is paying business reasons don't make sense.

Does she know anyone in Canada? Visit to friend or family is the best reason. Many unfortunately have no choice but to apply outland.

Would like to continue this thread.
If the 1st visitor visa is rejected due to the above same reason, will 2nd and 3rd get rejected eventhough more supporting documents are provided?
Do they look at your previous denied application and do a "blanket - rule" ?

I don’t think it’s a “blanket” rule at all, rather that the applicant does not have a compelling profile in those cases, or no improvements in his/her profile happened in between applications. It’s less about the number of documents submitted, but it’s based on the facts that the documents actually *say*.

I am also speculating here, but I would tend to think that measures are taken so that it’s a different officer who assesses a re-application from a previously refused applicant, so to see the application in a different perspective.
