Leaving Canada temporarily for a contract during PGP 2018

Hi everyone,

I have a question/dilemma

I put in my application to sponsor my parents for 2018, when they sent out a letter, all good so far. The current status is "Application received" around the first week of Oct 2018.

Now, I've planned on changing companies after a vacation in the near future, so I've been looking and I got an unexpected offer from the London UK to work in a major visual effects film on contract that will be a year or so. This would a massive thing to add in my resume that will jack up my salary as long as the industry is alive.

They will do all the paper work if I took it.

My question is, can a sponsor who is a citizen leave Canada temporarily while the application is in process?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi

You are required to reside in Canada AND to meet LICO in Canada throughout the entire process. If you move out of Canada for a year, expect the sponsorship app to be refused.

:'( that sucks! Not fair!

I came across a write about being a sponsor and can provide them evidence that I will come back to Canada when the Applicants arrive, or proof that they will be staying with a relative so and so, also by showing them the expiry date of Visa or some properties I might own in Canada etc but I wonder if that is for other kinds of family sponsorship and not for Parent grandparent.

Either ways due to the nature of my profession, if I stay at one place and settle down it is not going to work for me. Will they consider any special cases if I provide them any proof, also any idea why they have this law in place?

That one must only work in Canada being a citizen while the application is in process, I am genuinely wondering.

I think that the purpose of the PGP is to reunite parents with their childern living in Canada. If children are not settled/residing in Canada, what's the point for the parents to be in Canada (living with other relatives in Canada does not count from IRCC' s point of view as according to the application parents are coming to be with their children who sponsor them). Of course, in many situations parents do not live with the children who sponsored them (live on their own or with other relatives) and nobody can stop children from travelling/working abroad as long as they provide for their sponsored parents after they get PR status, but before the application is approved and parents get PR status all criteria must be met, including sponsor's residence in Canada.

Canadians can sponsor spouses/children while living outside of Canada. Not parents.

No, they will not consider you a special case. As said above, the point is family reunification, so if you aren't living in Canada, you aren't reuniting.

I disagree. Traveling outside Canada is ok for a short period of time. I wouldn't write to let IRCC know my travel plans. Settling down doesn't mean you can't visit other countries.

Disagree with what? No one has said anything about visiting.

OP wants to move to the UK for "a year or so", not visit for a short period of time.

OP also said if she stay for one place and settle down, it is not going to work for her.

Travelling is one thing, but the OP is moving to London for a year or two.
lol I didn't say a year or two. It will be a year maximum, possibly 9 to 10 months more likely. That's how long it takes to work on a live action feature film as an artist normally. Sometimes you can continue to work for the same company for more years but I only want to work on this one for movie credits.

Vancouver gets a lot of movies too, but you will get the biggest salary if you traveled around a bit, worked on a bunch of films at lets say Weta Digital in New Zealand (Peter Jackson's movies), and some remarkable studios in the UK. Get in, do a movie and get out, and move back to Canada, especially to Vancouver.

This is the industry standards, which is very different from other professions that you can be stable in place wherever you are inside Canada.

Also I have a condo in Toronto, which I will either lock when I go if I go, or rent it to a friend or someone in my social circle. So I still have an address in Toronto, does this make any difference at all?? :(

No difference. You are still required to live in Canada and meet LICO in Canada until your parents land.

The whole point of the process is to reunite families. The whole program is an expense to the Canadian taxpayer. What if a parent got sick and the child had moved to another country. /it would be hard to demand that the child support their parent financially if they lived abroad and had no assets in Canada and it would place more demand on Canadian services. If you are planning on travelling around for your career for the next years does it really make sense to apply for PGP until you are more settled?
