I would appreciate any advice from someone who has gotten their visa approved despite the fact that their chosen program was unrelated to their previous education.

I think there is not basic rule .. Depends on the immigration officer who flexibly deals with some nationalities and strictly with other nationalities ..
In general, probably the visa will refused if your study program is not related to your pervious study.

I applied to a BEng when I already had a BEng (Mechanical to Aerospace). It still got approved. I highly doubt this is evaluated based on how your programs relate to each other.

It depends. Even if previous education is not related to intended program, as long as current work experience is related to intended program, you have a chance in getting approved. My previous education is in aviation, but my intended program is in IT. I got approved because all my work experience are in IT.

What if I don't have any work experience? But just some personal projects.

It may not work on your favor. But, who knows, maybe with a very strong SOP you maybe able to convince the VO.

What’s your previous academic background and what do you intend to take up?

My previous education is a Bachelor of Commerce degree and I intend to study Web Development.

A bit far apart. Would have helped if you have work experience. Why not look for something related to your previous education? A Masters maybe?
I am not interested in the Commerce/Business field. Realised this quite late. Only interested in the Web Development and Programming field.

Could be a problem. Do those personal projects happen to have some paid projects?
Unfortunately no. I am thinking of doing an internship but I don't know enough to get hired as an intern. And If I was already good enough at developing websites I wouldn't want to study this program.
