I'm trying to apply to positions of work in Canada in order to get a work offer and in turn a canadian work permit. One question I get when I go through the application questions is whether I'm legally eligible to work in Canada, now because I don't currently have a work permit what do I put for this?

Do I put Yes or No?

If you are 30 or younger would suggest you look into IEC. It is quite hard to get an employer to hire you without having the ability to wrk in Canada. If you have rare skillset, mostly in tech, it is more likely.

So I looked a bit more into the IEC, am I correct in thinking it allows you a maximum of 2 years to stay in Canada with an eligibility to find work? I am a first class graduate in computer science in a bachelors degree. So would that help me in my application would you think?

Yes - that's how the IEC works.

No - your degree won't be of any benefit in terms of the application. It's a random draw.

Is there anything I should prepare before applying?
You should follow the application instructions on the IRCC website. Only a limited number of spaces are available and the program is always oversubscribed. You want to submit a profile as soon as possible into the pool and hope your name is selected.
