How long time from invitation to actual PR interview for inland applicants

Hi Guys,

can you please help.
My husband, who is the main applicant for CE inland, needs to fly out of the country for 2-3 weeks.
As far as I understood from forum discussions it looks like now for inland applicants there are totally another procedure - there is no passport sending for visas and go pole landing? correct? it is just invitation for interview
and receiving PR right away, isn't it?

What will happen if we receive invitation while he is out? or its usually some time gap between invitation and actual interview?
