do I "really" have a chance to find a job with my foreign degree ?

Hello,

I have a PhD in civil engineeing from algeria and i just start working as a university professor (assistant) in algeria.

if I obtained a PR in Canada, i would "love" to work in my field "civil engineering".

let's say I will have a WES assessment of my degree and let's say it will mention that I have an equivalent of a canadian PhD "just for the sake of argument".

So with that "WES assessment" do I really have a chance to get hired by a canadian company or institution ??
OR
It's inevitable to go back to collage and earn a canadian degree ?

As far as I know, civil engineering is a regulated sector here, so you'd have to fulfill some requirements before you are able to work in that field.

Im talking about the employers, do they usually "recognize" and hire foreign degree holders or do they usually avoid them ?

Employers look for relevant experience and certifications(if you need them in your field of work).
I do not think you would not be selected for a job just because of a foreign degree .

Yeah, at least in my field (IT), I've noticed that employers usually tend to value more one's professional experience over degrees.

Yes in IT experience is all that matters .

Would disagree. IT is it's own world. I think you may struggle. Teaching at a university is unlikely unless you have published a lot and done international work. Depends on your specialty and area of focus and whether there is demand in that field. It is helpful if you have worked for an international firm.

Yes iI know that, Im not looking specifically for teaching positions coz I know its hard to get, Iv published in reputable international journals (a few papers not alot) and Iv spent few months in a university lab in paris. Im looking for any position in my field (civil engineering).

Not saying it is impossible but just disagreeing that there will be no problem. Really also depends on your area of research. Unless you are using translation software you are likely bilingual which you should emphasize. That may be helpful in securing a job in Canada.

I'm actually trilingual (I speak english, french and arabic)
I hope english and french will help me there ...

From my personal experience, if you don't have previous experience in the industry, employers won't give your applications much thought. Even if you get a degree from Canada, which is likely to be another masters or PhD, it won't help much. They are looking for someone ready to make contribution from day one. You will have to start from the very bottom, if not below that. In the academia you have very slim chance as it's very competitive, and many international applicants compete on the few openings.
