Self employed - photography

Actually I need your advice on my case. I'm an engineer with 8 years experience as a full time job at a government company and I'm still working there. Besides that I'm a photographer as a part time job for 5 years. I've attended several international music festival abroad my country and took many photos. To be honest what I earned from photography is much more than my full time job annualasalary as an engineer.

The question is, in my case can I apply for self employed immigration as a photographer? Should I mention that I'm an engineer and I have a full time job?

In my opinion, since you are a freelance photographer, getting the required documents would be much harder than getting documents from your day job as an engineer, so I would suggest you choose engineer as your main NOC. It doesn't matter if you earned more with photography.

Thanks for your quick response. What if I can take documents from the events managers or the artists managers who I photographed them? I've already talk to them, they are ready to help me.

Well you certainly can take documents from them, but you will need to show yourself as self-employed which includes having a business in your name in your country, get reference letters from your clients and so forth. Much better and simpler to apply as an engineer. Please note even if you apply as an engineer and get PR, you can still perform any kind of legal work in Canada including photography.

Definitely right. I was thinking maybe the process of applying as self-employed is easier than skilled workers and the chance of success is more. But apparently it is not true. So I'll take your advice.
