hello.

I am 5 months into waiting for a decision on my PR and am moving to Australia for a year to start a work visa. What happens if I get my PR? How long do I have to enter Canada? I've read you have to be there before a year from when you're medical was issued? Could I fly there and check in and then leave again for a few months?

Thanks in advance

Since your AOR is July, I assume you did you medical exam around June/July of 2018.
So you essentially have till July 2019 to land. (medicals last for a year and the visa/COPR is usually tied to the medical/ passport expiry date whichever one is earlier)
You can fly to Canada anytime before the visa expires, carry out the landing formalities and return to whichever country you came from (aka 'soft land').
You only need to be in canada for 730 days (2 years) in any given 5 year period to retain your PR status (and it doesn't have to be continuous days). So enjoy your work in Australia and whenever your PR comes you can "soft land" and return to Australia.

Thanks tobs. Ill probably not do the soft landing thing because of the cost of flights, but still good to know! Think my medical was mid May

You can notify them as soon as you get your PPR or as soon as you settle if you like.
