COPR Received - Adding Spouse?

Hello,

Has anyone recently dealt with adding their spouse to their EE application during a later stage? I’m getting married in a few months and already have the COPR in hand as a single applicant.

I’ve done my research and it seems I will have to reach out to CIC to get my COPR and visa updated. I tried the webform but they got back with this:
  • My application is “complete” so no further action required
  • I can sponsor my spouse only after arriving in Canada
  • I can add them only if they are accompanying
I’m not really getting a clear picture from them. I’ve also tried reaching out to CPC Ottawa via email, but no response.

So what are my options at this point? Is there any phone number of helpline available for EE?

You can not add your spouse at this stage. Now, either you will have to sponsor her or she has to apply under EE.

You can't add your spouse now if you are getting married IN A FEW MONTHS unless you are now in a common law relationship. You can land now and sponsor your spouse after you are legally married

But If you are ALREADY legally married and have not landed, then you MUST inform IRCC now and provide documents for your spouse. They'll revoke your current PR visa and COPR, run checks on your spouse and issue you new PR visa and COPR after

Thanks. What if I can make the landing only after the wedding?

Can I still use the current COPR? (Before the expiry date)

If by "wedding" you mean legal marriage, not just an informal reception, then no, you can't land as a single applicant. You MUST inform IRCC.
If you land as a single while you're actually already legally married, then you won't be allowed to sponsor your spouse after. Your spouse would have to immigrate entirely on his/her own

If you marry before landing, you MUST add your spouse. Failure to add your spouse is misrepresentation that will result in your spouse being forever excluded from the Family Class, meaning you wouldn't be able to sponsor them.

If you marry after landing, you will have to sponsor your spouse.
