Request for passport to continue processing of study permit application

Hey Peeps, I applied for a study permit from UAE on Oct 21, 2018. I received this email from VFS today:

This refers to your application for a Canadian temporary residence visa, study permit and/or work permit. In order for the embassy to continue the processing of your application, they require the following documents:



Passport/Travel Document (Please include the File number mentioned on the subject line on your final print out of this NOTIFICATION!): Valid passport or travel document for yourself. This must be received at this office within 30 days of this request.



Please note:



They require your original passport(s).



You must submit your passport through the Visa Application Centre (VAC). For the VAC’s location, see below:



FOR UAE: http://www.vfsglobal.ca/canada/uae/contact_us.html

FOR KUWAIT: http://www.vfsglobal.ca/Canada/Kuwait/contact_us.html

FOR QATAR: http://www.vfsglobal.ca/Canada/Qatar/contact_us.html

NOTE:



FOR UAE AND OMAN: Passport(s) can be dropped-off at the VAC from Sundays to Thursdays between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

FOR KUWAIT AND QATAR: Passport(s) can be dropped-off at the VAC from Sundays to Thursdays between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.



Do not drop-off/send your passport(s) directly to the Embassy.



What you need to bring with you:



  • A copy of this letter indicating the File number as shown from the subject line at the top of this NOTIFICATION.
  • Original passport(s) or travel document(s)


If we do not receive your passport(s) within the due date given, the embassy will withdraw your application and any submission after that date will require a new application.

PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT DOES THIS MEAN EXACTLY? WILL I GET A VISA? WAS MY APPLICATION APPROVED?

Congratulations! Passport request means approval. They are requesting for your passport because they need to attach the visa counterfoil to your passport. If you were rejected, then they don’t need to request for your passport anymore.

Start packing, mate!

I hope so but the wording used is so vague and confusing. They are requesting my passport to continue processing my application. The usual passport request letters mention

"A decision has been made on your application. We
require your passport to finalize processing your application.
Passport requirements
• Please provide your passport or travel document, with a copy of this letter.
• There must be at least one blank page in your passport.
• Your passport must be valid for the duration of your expected length of stay in Canada.
• Please note that we cannot issue a visa beyond the expiry date on the passport"

But mine is very vague and different, it doesn't mention that a decision has been reached or that the process is finalized. They want to continue processing my application .. What are your thoughts?

But why would they request for your pssport? Did you submit a scanned/photocopy with your application?

Wait, did you apply offline or online? For offline application, I know it is required to submit orignal passport with the application. However, VFS should have advise you that original passport is required...

I applied through VFS, hard copy application and got the visa eventually
