Yes it is, the processing times depend on the country you're applying from, and the other applications that are being processed simultaneously along yours. If one application becomes complicated, all applications are delayed until the issue with that one particular application is solved. I wish I had any links to share, all the info is available online.

Hi, I've received the same e-mail and have been impatiently waiting for a confirmation of my own estimation of the processing times. I knew that there was nothing new there aside from a timeline from September to March (for me, supposedly).
Beyond all expectations, I CANNOT SEEM TO LINK MY APPLICATION. I've tried 3 times and it doesn't work. The link clearly states "Did you apply on paper or don't see your online application in your account?". I haven't applied on paper, and I can see my application.
I'm sure CIC didn't mistakenly send me that email. So I must be seeing the tracking bar. However I can't link the application to my account. Can anybody help me out?
EDIT: there's no point linking my application because it was done online, and I can clearly see it on my account's page. I'm hoping there is a lag behind this issue, and that it's only a matter of time (few days hopefully) until the bar is visible. Fingers crossed.

yeah..... the status bar said my application was estimated to be completed on the 13th of June, 2018..... Its December 13th, 2018 still not finalized. I am sure @imran khan did a better job in predicting the time left for applications to be completed.
That ain't new buddy. Known that i am/was in SS since February 2018. My Security screening started in January 2018. They ought to have been done by now.
Yes, it's perfectly normal. If you gave them EVERYTHING EXACTLY AS REQUIRED, expect to wait 6 months starting the day they start processing it.
There is a difference between the day they start processing your application, and the day your application was received.
I applied online so my guess is they received it the day I sent it and only started processing it after a while (sometimes weeks or months).
Once they've started processing it, expect 6 months.
The time-bar was to hint out the day they started processing it.
I still can't see mine (despite receiving their confirmation email) however they do say that I may not hear from them for a while (since I gave them everything they needed).
Any reason why they put you in SS?..extensive travel history or country of residence?
