Language proof: should I send a photocopy for a proof that I don't have the original copy anymore?

Here is my question: when I applied for PR, I did a language test for PEQ (a Quebec programme). They took the certificate of my test results and never returned it to me. I still have a photocopy of the certificate. Do you think it would be a good idea to send in the photocopy for my citizenship application?

Well, they do ask you to bring for the interview the original documents whose copies you sent during the application...
In practice, the language proof will not be checked if you obviously speak french or english.
In all cases, the original is withing IRCC's hands, if yo uget asked for it for some reason, a simple explanation should probably do the trick.

I sent my photocopies for my IELTS test. They know that they took the originals at the time of the application. I got my citizenship back in september. They never asked for the original copy.

Thank you for the replies, that's very helpful. My original is not with IRCC though, it's with the Quebec ministry. But I think I will send my copy anyway. I don't think I can go through the hassle of doing the exam again!

You could just email them and ask for the original, or ask them to forward that they hold the original. You need to prepared in case they ask for EVERYTHING; just to make sure that you have all the documents you say you have. If they won't do it, just send a message to the IRCC explaining things.

1. If you read the instructions, here is what they say regarding proof of language.

If you are 18 to 54 years old:Photocopies of your proof of English or French language ability if you are 18-54 years of age. Examples of what you can provide include the following:
  • results of a third-party language test;
  • diploma, certificate or transcripts from a secondary or post-secondary education program in Canada or abroad, where the language of study was English or French
  • proof that you have reached the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 4 or higher through a government-funded language training programs.
