It's hard to say because IRCC has requested missing information. Once you have missing information, your application is technically no longer following normal application processes and you can expect longer than normal processing times.

Hello Everyone

I am pondering sponsoring my parents in 2020 but based on the financial undertaking between the sponsor and the Federal Government saying the sponsored family member isn't entitled to any financial assistance from the government, will eligible tax credits be classified as this?

My dad is blind so I believe I should be able to claim Disability tax credit when filing my tax return with him being my dependant. Does anyone here have any insight on this?

Thanks

From my experience and alot of reading, It's the background check that takes the longest which usually begins AFTER the medical. Background can take from weeks to months.

Hey There, Could anybody help me in this.

My wife is an international student in canada and has completed her two semesters. I have attached her first transcript along with marriage certificate and applied for open work permit on the based of spousal sponsorship. My application got refused by stating that I am not eligible. I can only apply if my wife was on work permit or I haven't adequately demonstrated that I am eligible for the work permit under section 205.

What can I do now? Please suggest if someone has such experience.

Your parent wouldn't be counted as your dependent. Anticipate having no extra funding for the government. If your father eventually ends up in long-term care you will have to pay a bed fee. Canadians pension income gets diverted to cover part of the cost in a nursing home. You will have to cover the around $1000/month. There can be quite a lot of cost involved in having parents in Canada. He would also have to pass the medical. Any form of sight aids/medical devices will likely need to be paid for out of your pocket.
