After I become a Canadian Citizen, can I leave the country and just apply for dual citizenship in the Philippines?

Yes you can leave but if your intention is to just apply dual citizenship you can always do that in the Philippine embassy in Canada.

We will send our Canadian citizenship application next month and I'm planning to spend my Mat Leave (1 and a half year) in the Philippines and if the plan change, I'll probably stay there with my 4 children while my husband work here in Canada. My questions are;

1. Do I have to surrender or give up my Filipino Citizenship once I apply for Canadian citizenship? Or can I maintain it while getting my Canadian citizenship? Will it not affect my Canadian application if I wanted to keep it?

2. If we have to give up our Filipino citizenship, can we apply for dual citizenship while we are in the Philippines?

3. Will we lose our Canadian citizenship if we live in the Philippines for too long like 20 years for example? (I'm worried that my children lose it, I wanted to provide them the option to live in the Philippines or Canada once they grow up.)

Thanks!

1. If you are a natural board citizen of the Philippines, then via RA 9225 you do not need to surrender your Filipino Citizenship

3. No. You can live outside Canada for as long as you like. The only thing to be aware of is that while any children from now on that are born outside Canada can indeed inherit citizenship from you... if they have children themselves outside Canada, they can't pass on their Canadian citizenship to them (the "second generation abroad" rule)
