Hi Everyone,

I am on open work permit, and if i work for US recruiting agency and get paid(US Dollars) without deductions in my chequing account and pay my taxes once a year, will that be ok?

Also wanted to see, do i have to work only for Canadian employer for one year to be eligible to apply for PR?

Kindly help me understand the proper way to move ahead in this situation.

TIA

It sounds like you are self-employed. That is OK if you have an open work permit. But the experience will not count as "Canadian" work experience.

To be eligible to apply for PR under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) program, you have to work for one or more Canadian employers for a total of at least one year full-time (or the equivalent in part-time work), in a skilled occupation. However, CEC is only one program. Under express entry, there are 3 programs. Then there are traditional paper-based programs, such as provincial nomination programs.

You need to learn more about Canadian immigration, start by reading the IRCC website.

Also, if your objective is PR, you should look for a Canadian employer, it will make the process much easier.

Thank you very much for taking time and replying.

As you mentioned that I should work for Canadian employer, if i talk to any umbrella company or any person who have an incorporation on his name and ask them to run my payroll, will that be ok?

My wife is pursuing her masters in Canada, so if she becomes primary applicant after her studies gets completed, then can i show my experience (self employed or independent contractor) being dependent in her application will that be an issue?

Apart from this, kindly suggest what best i can do in this situation.

Regards,
Cool

You would need to have a Canadian Employer who will employ you for full-time position (around 40-45 hours per week) and pay you a monthly salary. You will have to show all your pay stubs as proof and also tax deduction forms. This is for Canadian Experience. Though your current job will also fetch you points (maximum are for 3 years, after that all get same points irrespective of number of additional years of experience) these points will be in work experience while applying for Express Entry under FSW class

No, the primary candidate's work experience is only counted, the dependent (Spouse) helps by bringing points in the profile (to the CRS) via their education and language skills. She will need minimum 1-year experience to apply under CEC

Apart from this, kindly suggest what best i can do in this situation.

Thank you.

So will it okay if i ask my US employer to pay the incorporation with whom i will negotiate and they run my payroll with all pay stubs?
If yes, will there be an issue while applying for PR being me as a primary applicant?
If no, what would be the alternate way?

I just have 3 days to decide whether to take this offer or leave it.

Kindly help.
