Work experience proof should be paper or electronic?

This maybe dump question.

My previous company just sent me a pdf with leader's signature as proof of my work experience, which include all necessary details.

May I ask so such "electronic" documents are sufficient? Do we need to mail paper-based document or original document as supporting documents?

No document is mailed when it comes to Express Entry.
However, if during the process you are selected for an interview, you may be required to show all originals of the documents you initially submitted electronically.
Can you ask for the original document you received?
