Canadian passport with given name "XXX", will OCI have "XXX" too ?

Dear All,

I got my Canadian passport recently. They have issued my name as below :

Given Name: XXX; Surname: <Given Name as per Indian passport>

Instead of leaving the Given Name as blank they have put "XXX"

I need to apply for OCI card and i was told that i need to update the fields as per Canadian passport.

So will my OCI card have my Given Name as XXX ? Is it better to do a legal name change before applying for OCI ? Is it worth the wait ? I don't want my OCI to reflect XXX... Kindly advise.

I spoke to BLS, they have very little information, they just help to package the application for submission...

I was wondering if anybody else went thru the same situating, can share their experience?

I also have the same issue with my name. When I went to BLS for my Indian Citizenship renounce, they said I may need a name change Affidavit if I am going to applying OCI.

Any way I am not planning for applying for OCI as of now.

From the way you describe, you do not have a given name? If it not the case, you should get your Canadian passport corrected. You mentioned that they have put your given name as Surname in the Canadian passport which should not be the case either.

So what Happend to your OCI process ?
Did they asked you to submit the Affidavit or accepted it without any issue ?

As per candain website passport section yes it should match

but in travel document you can talk to airline guy and they do understand

In CIC First name is optional , thats the reason , you can have only last name print there
but when it comes to canada passport rules both fields are mandatory

so in case you do not have first name in PR or canadian citizinship certificate, they put XXX
