Hi,

I acquired the Canadian PR status one month ago after I made my landing at Toronto Pearson Airport. Because I am currently obliged by an employment contract to work in another country for two years, I left Canada one week after my first landing, before getting the PR Card mailed to my address in Canada.

According to the Settlement.org, you take a risk if a friend couriered your PR Card to you. You may face some obstacles re-entering Canada. They suggest you apply for a PRTD at your nearest VAC.

If Any one experienced returing to Canada using the Couriered PR Card without applying for the PRTD, plz share with us your experience. Let us know what happened in the Canadian port of entry once you returned, did they ask why you did not apply for a PRTD?, and did they then let you in or ask you to leave to another country and apply for the PRTD over there?

Thank you for sharing with your peers.

Others can comment as well but think that you are overthinking things given once you have your PR card in hand that is all CBSA will be interested in at the border. How you came by it should not be any concern to them and doubtful they have the resources to even be worried about how you received it, different government dept for cards anyway..

As a PR you are entitled to enter regardless and you would not be refused entry with some people at a land border even using an expired card or COPR despite getting some possible verbal grief from CBSA.

Did the post you read say exactly why may encounter problems or was that simply speculation.

If anything generally some people feel uncomfortable using a courier outside of the country in case the foreign country intercepts the card for some reason which can never be predicted so they just recommend getting a PRTD in case given without a valid PR card or PRTD a landed PR cannot board a plane..

Thank you for your reply.

The link below is what I talked about it in the previous post:

https://settlement.org/ontario/immigration-citizenship/landing-and-leaving/leaving-canada/i-need-to-leave-canada-but-do-not-have-my-pr-card-yet-what-should-i-do/

You can see that they stated that travelling with a couriered PR is a risk-taking.

I wish others also comment on this.

Yeah they’re obliged to say it’s a risk because this is an org that gets funding from IRCC, and this practice is not officially condoned...but it is not officially endorsed either. It’s a gray area people take advantage of. I have yet to hear a bad consequence of this practice around here. My relatives have done it too. The only bad thing out of it was when they left the country without surrendering their OHIP. They just got a stern warning they will not get OHIP if they leave again for an extended period without reporting to Service Ontario. I wouldn’t recommend applying for health cards until you are truly settled.

Thanks for confirming that the PR Card mailed abroad by a friend can be used to re-enter Canada without a need for getting a PRTD in advance.

I beleive PR can neither be couried nor hand carried by any one.
You can get "Landing Document" from consulate and land in Canada

This is completely incorrect. Both courier and hand carriage are legal.
