Trying to complete documents for my study permit. Have a question regarding visitors visa for my family who will visit while I study.
1. In answering question in cic account, should it be (a) visitor visa - tourism or (b) visitor visa- all other types

2. The visitor visa application form speaks to funds, how much should it be? Since they will be visiting periodically

3. Also I am not there yet so what address do I put for them.

Thank you

Visit - Family (not tourism or others)

All liquid finances that are legit + owned by each of them i.e. not borrowed for the visa application and must match their declared sources of income.

You would want to consider waiting until you have an address + you can provide an invitation letter + your study permit. Otherwise apply for a SOWP for your spouse.

Also, it's not a good idea to mention that they will be visiting you *periodically*. The visa officer knows your family will attempt the TRV route just so as to get the SOWP/visitor records when they arrive. But, mentioning they will be visiting regularly would confirm they are not short-stay visitors

Why would it be all liquid assets if just to visit ?

Could you explain this some more, because it seems that all the documents must go in at the same time I apply for study permit. Or is that you are saying I shouldn't mention family any at all and wait until I am Canada and gave started studying to apply for their visitor visas?

Thanks for your response, but it still a bit confusing for me....initially I wanted to apply for TRV for them and SWOP for my husband at the same time as my study permit...i was advised that we may all get turned down....so I decided to just apply for study permit. It was my understanding that it is almost automatic that your child and husband can visit you while you study. I didn't think there was any hidden agenda with it. Especially in answering the questions in my cic account, it automatically generated visitor visa application forms for them. Could you explain please

Overall I am confused....if Canada has a system where you can study and then apply for a PGOWP which can then lead to a PR...why the needed to tip toe around proving that one will go home after studies. I know they have on the cic website but I just thought the issue was whether you prove the finances to afford the studies....I just don't get it

I recommend you go through this forum + the International Students section to understand how the process works.

Visitors are not expected to accompany/stay long-term with their student spouses for the duration of their studies. They must apply for SOWPs instead.

Also, the chances of refusal for spouses/children of study permit holders is pretty high as compared to SOWPs/TRVs of spouses for WP holders.

Also, the route to a PR via a study permit is a very long one that could take a number of years. It does not apply at the moment to you. A study permit is a temporary visa

I know it doesn't apply to me now and that is takes years but it is possible so why is it necessary to tiptoe around it is why I am confused....I know several persons from country who did it and got through. Why do they say spouse and child can go with you if they really can't?

Not declaring all your immediate family members will be misrepresentation.

TRV approvals for visiting spouses/children of study permit holders is NOT automatic. They must prove their intentions to visit are genuine + for a short stay.

The document checklist is generated automatically. It is not assurance that visas will be granted ultimately

Again, spouse/children of study permit holders have much lower chances of getting approved for TRVs as compared to those who have work permits.

Do go through the forum. It is quite informative

Not sure I understand what you meant re the above, which one has higher refusal? The Swop route or visitor visa?

I know it's not automatic, just trying to see best route.

1. Apply for study permit and leave out that family will come. And a later date apply for them with TRV and SWOP
Or
2. Apply for everything all at once, study permit, TRV and SWOP
OR
3. Apply for my study permit and visitor visa for them

All scenarios would depend on the strong ties that your spouse can demonstrate to your home country + financial situation, etc

Also you willingness to go to Canada if they aren't approved. If you will not go if they get refused you might consider submitting your permit and your family's all together. If you are doing a more advanced degree lie a masters or PhD there seems to be a higher likelihood of approval.
