Hi, I migrated to Canada with a study permit. A few years back I had stayed in Canada for 1 to 2 years without studying full-time due to personal issues. I did not work at all during these times, and was wondering how this will affect my future admissibility to get a post-graduate work permit or a PR card? I know it is entirely my fault, and I was not thinking straight about the consequences. I am now studying full-time and looking to graduate. When I apply for any future applications, and I fill it out honestly saying I was non-compliant, what would the consequences be?

It's possible your study permit may have been canceled during the 1-2 years you were in Canada without studying. How long ago was this? Which years? Your school is supposed to report you to IRCC if you aren't studying or drop out. If that happened, there's a chance IRCC canceled your study permit automatically and a risk you may now be in Canada without status and don't know it. I would say that's your biggest immediate risk / issue.

This was during 2015 to 2016. Is there a way they cancelled my study permit without letting me know? What if, in theory, I had attended another school? I am still studying right now... would that mean I would have studied illegally? My study permit is supposed to expire May 2019. How would this affect my PGWP application?
