Passport renewal during the PR application processing

Hi guys,


Need your help with the following:
I have received ITA this month and the timeline to submit my final profile is 29 Dec'18.
Issue is that my passport is expiring next year in August'19. I am thinking of going ahead with the final submission for PR with the existing passport by first week of Dec'18. Post submission I will go for passport renewal. The new passport I expect to get before I receive COPR.

I find below concerns with this process:
1. How to deal with CIC for the new passport request. Ideally at the time of stamping new passport should be used..
2. In case I intimate CIC of the new passport request, would that impact or delay my COPR processing
3. Would new PCC be required for the new passport as well??
4. Should i wait till i get COPR with the existing passport and then apply for passport renewal. Here I run the risk of passport getting expired in less than 6 months at the time of stamping which might be an issue with CIC.

Please let me know if you find any flaws in this understanding. Would really appreciate if any alternative plan is suggested otherwise.

1. How to deal with CIC for the new passport request. Ideally at the time of stamping new passport should be used.:- Yes, I'd suggest you to send in your new passport.

2. In case I intimate CIC of the new passport request, would that impact or delay my COPR processing:- As far as I think, it shouldn't delay the process however, they would update that in your profile.

3. Would new PCC be required for the new passport as well??:- That you'd have to check with your local passport office.

4. Should i wait till i get COPR with the existing passport and then apply for passport renewal. Here I run the risk of passport getting expired in less than 6 months at the time of stamping which might be an issue with CIC.:- If your passport expires within 3 months of visa stamping, your visas would be for 3 months only instead of 6.

I'd suggest you to renew your passport, update your application details in the CIC account. Also, once you accept the ITA, you'd have 60 days to submit the docs.

Also, to feel secured, you can call the IRCC helpline number and speak to them about your case.

An inside, You should get a new passport right away and apply PR application with that. Else you will have a number of hurdles. CSE and email response is pretty slow from CIC. My personal advice will be to apply passport under tatkal and submit PR application with that.

Thanks Preet. I am going for tatkal renewal only. Think that's the best solution so far!!.
I have one question however. How about the PCC?? I already have one PCC for old passport. Do i need to get another one done for my new passport??

I am thinking about what happened to my work permit? Shall I renew my work permit as well? - it's expiring on Nov this year. dude, your passport has already expired (Jan 21). You should have got it renewed already. Quickly contact Embassy India and get a new passport asap. The work permit expires when passport expires. You will have more troubles. So better get a new passport and then apply for bgwp or close work permit on the new passport.

I am so sorry, I meant my passport is expiring in Jan 2022. I contacted the embassy and got appointment to renew it in May. I guess I could update passport no. on my work permit after I got the new passport. Can we do it online or is it okay just leave it there since my work permit is expiring in November... Does anyone have the similar experience? Tried to call CIC but not able to get through...

Once you get a new passport, just submit a webform with the details. You can mention your work permit application number and ask for an update. Usually Visas on older passports work, just keep the old passport.

However, IRCC will have the final word.
