Hi Everyone,
I wanted to ask if you can get PR working manufacturing jobs. I graduated with a health science degree and it`s pretty hard for me to get a job in my field and i am scared that i won`t be able to get PR. Can anyone help if there is any option in my case. Also i am getting married this december, and wanted my wife to visit me next year and potentially work if possibly. As of now i am still working under an employment agency cause i have been going back home quite often and couldn`t keep a job. Planning to get a job in january which am pretty sure will be in a manufacturing industry.

If your Canadian experience is not at least skill level B, it's not going to be of any use for CEC, which is what most PGWP holders are working towards.

If you are not in "Skilled" employment, your spouse will not be eligible for an Open Work Permit.

Thank you, I will try my best to apply but for a health science degree with no experience is just hard to land a job skilled 0 A or B. so what happens if PGWP expires, i would assume there`s no extension for that right

You are correct. It's a one-off, non-extendable, free gift from the Government of Canada :)

does the length of your experience matter, like if you were to get a skilled job 3 months before PGWP expiry date. Is that going to be an issue?

YoYou would need the full 12 months and 1530 hours of skilled experience to qualify for CEC.
My wife will qualify for a visitor visa right? till i land a skilled job
Possibly. That would be assessed on it's own merits.

Thank you for responding. I appreciate!
No problem. I made a typo in the hours required. Here is the official statement.

Your experience must be at least:

  • One year of full-time work
    • 30 hours/week for 12 months = 1 year full time (1,560 hours), or
  • equal amount in part-time hours, such as:
    • 15 hours/week for 24 months = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
    • 30 hours/week for 12 months at more than 1 job = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
For part-time work, you can work more or less than 15 hours/week as long as it adds up to 1,560 hours.

We don’t count any hours you work above 30 hours/week.
