How you add a newborn to your spousal sponsorship application depends;
WHEN NEW BABY IS BORN INSIDE CANADA
A baby born inside Canada is likely a Canadian Citizen (….principle of jus soli) and not eligible to be sponsored or issued a visa.
.........exception: baby born in Canada to foreign representatives, diplomats or consular officers with both parents enjoying special status under the Foreign Missions and International Organizations Act (FMIOA).

To add your New Baby born inside Canada, you need to do the following;
1. Update IMM5406 - Additional Family Information form (Section B) and send though IRCC Web Form to IRCC.
3. Pay online the Canadian Citizenship Certificate Application Fee and apply for your newborn Canadian Citizenship certificate.
4. Send a scanned copy of the Citizenship Certificate Application Fee Receipt though Web Form to the IRCC Office processing the Spousal Sponsorship application.
Note:
a. Update IMM5406 form Section B with dependent child details as the Principal Applicant has a new child but is not been added to spousal sponsorship.
b. “How many Family Members, including you, are in this application” the Principal Applicant provided in IMM0008 Application Details Q3 will not change as your baby is a Canadian Citizen and not eligible to be sponsored or issued a visa.
2. Send a scanned copy of the newborn Canadian Birth Certificate through IRCC Web Form to Visa Office (to confirm baby birth).a. Update IMM5406 form Section B with dependent child details as the Principal Applicant has a new child but is not been added to spousal sponsorship.
b. “How many Family Members, including you, are in this application” the Principal Applicant provided in IMM0008 Application Details Q3 will not change as your baby is a Canadian Citizen and not eligible to be sponsored or issued a visa.
3. Pay online the Canadian Citizenship Certificate Application Fee and apply for your newborn Canadian Citizenship certificate.
4. Send a scanned copy of the Citizenship Certificate Application Fee Receipt though Web Form to the IRCC Office processing the Spousal Sponsorship application.
How you add a new baby born outside Canada to spousal sponsorship application depends on if the Sponsor is a CANADIAN CITIZEN or a PERMANENT RESIDENT (PR).
A. IF THE SPONSOR BECAME A CANADIAN CITIZEN;
Your new baby born Outside Canada;
1. Has a claim to Canadian Citizenship and is a Canadian citizen
2. Is not eligible to be sponsored and cannot be issued a visa.
3. Cannot be added to your spousal Permanent Residency sponsorship application.

To add your New Baby born outside Canada, you need to do the following;

4. Send complete application for Proof of Canadian Citizenship for the newborn baby to the IRCC office responsible for the country where your new baby was born.
5. When available, send a scanned copy of the Acknowledgement of Receipt of application for Proof of Canadian Citizenship through IRCC Web Form to the Visa Office processing the Spousal Sponsorship as a proof of application for Canadian Citizenship for your newborn.
6. Later apply for the newborn Canadian Travel Passport.
B. IF THE SPONSOR IS A PERMANENT RESIDENT (PR) IN CANADANote:
a. Update IMM5406 form Section B with dependent child details as the Principal Applicant has a new child but is not been added to spousal sponsorship.
b. Your baby is a Canadian Citizen and cannot be added to the spousal sponsorship.
2. Send a scanned copy of newborn Birth Certificate issued by government authorities in the country where the child was born through IRCC Web Form to Visa Office (to confirm baby birth).a. Update IMM5406 form Section B with dependent child details as the Principal Applicant has a new child but is not been added to spousal sponsorship.
b. Your baby is a Canadian Citizen and cannot be added to the spousal sponsorship.
Hence, “How many Family Members, including you, are in this application” the Principal Applicant provided in IMM0008 Application Details Q3 will not change, no Dependant is added and no update is required in IMM0008 form.
3. Pay online the Proof of Canadian Citizenship Application Fee for a minor (currently 75 CAD).
4. Send complete application for Proof of Canadian Citizenship for the newborn baby to the IRCC office responsible for the country where your new baby was born.

8. When available, send a scanned copy of the data page of the newborn International Travel Passport through IRCC Web Form to Visa Office processing the Spousal Sponsorship.

3. Click on the “Add Dependant” button – update IMM0008 form with newborn details.Your baby is a not a Canadian Citizen and should be added to the spousal sponsorship. Hence, “How many Family Members, including you, are in this application” the Principal Applicant provided in IMM0008 Application Details Q3 will increase (++) and the newborn is added as a Dependant.
