Hi,
I am a permanent residence with Common Law Sponsorship longer than a year!
I will move to a different place in Canada!
I have to change my address ... Can I do it online or do I have to send an email or letter????

I could not found any online and if I am not sure is it for me?

Also will I get a new PR card or will I keep the old one?????

thanks a lot!
Emma

Hi

IRCC doesn't care what your address is now. You don't get a new card.

No need to change your address, you are a permanent resident of Canada not of the province

ARE YOU SURE???
In the papers it says let them know if you change address!!

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=621&top=4

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
So the government don't need to know the new address?
Are you waiting for documents from them?

If you want to do it just to be covered, you should be able to do it here:
https://services3.cic.gc.ca/ecas/introduction.do?app=null
Under your current address, you have the option to do it.

Let me know if that works for you!

That's the way it works....
The only time you will give a new address is for your PR card renewal or citizenship application;)

This is not like about an ID card in Europe. where your permanent residency address has to be accurate (which also gives you special rights when it comes to that address).
Here it is just a place where to send you PR card or other documents. (you might have already noticed just how casual is it to send you all kind of ID cards by post (PR card or driving licence for example).
Such system is good and bad at the same time. it is good, because it is very convenient. And it is very bad, because it is so very easy for anybody else to get hands on your personal documents.

Sorry for digging out this old thread but this just crossed my mind and after a quick google search I stumbled upon this www.visaplace.com/blog-immigration-law/permanent-resident-cards/change-address-permanent-resident-card/amp/

I am confused now since you guys are saying it is not necessary to do so while they state it's an obligation of a pr. Thanks for clarifying
If you go searching random websites, you are always going to find at least one that gives wrong information.

If it was required, it would be stated by IRCC.

Featured snippets are simply results that most match what you searched. It doesn't mean that it is accurate.
