Dear Canada Visa,

I am preparing my application for Express Entry and have an inquiry in regards to proof of funds. I am the primary applicant. My spouse has funds that exceed the Low income cut off requirements for a family of 2 in an account in his name. Is uploading a bank statement that reflects this along with an affidavit confirming that I have access to the account enough? Do I still need to upload my bank statement (I do not have sufficient funds in my Bank account).

Additionally, I can issue a letter from my employer that reads as follows:

This is to certify that xxx is a participant in the World Bank Group's Staff Retirement Plan (the Plan). The Plan is comprised of two core components: a defined benefit component and a cash balance component. The defined benefit component provides a lump sum payment to participants who terminate with fewer than 5 years of service under the Plan or with between 5 and 10 years of service but whose age plus years of service add up to less than 60. The cash balance component provides a lump sum benefit equal to the accumulated value of the staff's and the World Bank's contributions and earnings thereon.

If XXX had terminated her service from the World Bank Group on
September 30, 2018, she would be eligible to receive lump sum benefits as follows:
(i) a defined benefit payment of KWD XXX,
(ii) a cash balance payment of USD XXX (amount exceeding cut off)
(iii) a country office savings plan payment of USD XXX.

Benefits under the Plan may not be pledged as collateral, nor will such benefit be in any manner liable for or subject
to the debts, contracts, liabilities, engagements or torts of the person entitled to such benefit, except as specifically
provided in the Plan. Benefits under the Plan may not be legally encumbered.

The information provided above is estimated as of the date of this letter, and is subject to change or adjustment. In all
cases the terms of the Plan shall govern.

Would the letter detailed above be admissible, along with a statement from my Spouse's account, or would I have to provide statements from my current account?

Many thanks in advance for your support.

Please read carefully the requirements for proof of funds on CIC website.

The letter should be from a financial institution and not your employer. CIC may not accept this letter and expects you to liquidate the asset and hold it in cash to meet the POF requirements.

It shouldnt be a problem if your spouse has the funds and they are included in your PR application. Better to include a letter that explains your situation.

Hello Mulzi,

Many thanks for your response.

Is it ok if the ONLY account I show is my spouse's account? Or do I have to show my account even if it does not have any money, since I am the primary applicant?

Also, does it make a difference that my employer is an "international financial institution" ?

why dont you want to provide your account details? It might raise some flags. Best to do both but technically they can accept your spouse's account if the spouse is accompanying. Maybe add a letter explaining your situation.

Dont know about the letter though. best to read up on the requirements carefully, word by word to make sure there is no deficiency in your applicaiton.

best of luck

You can show your spouse account details in the format / details specified by CIC and letter from spouse that you have access to funds. If you don't show your account it is fine.

I see no use of employer letter with respect to proof of funds.
