Proof of work experience - T4 does not cover 1 year

Hello,

I've been working for a company since December 18 of 2017 (but I received my paycheck after January of 2018). I would complete 1 year experience on December 18 of this year but I've traveled outside Canada for 2 weeks this year and I will also travel for 2 more weeks between Dec 20 - Jan 5.

My questions are:

1 - I believe I will be able to claim 1 year experience only after I complete 1 year + 4 weeks (the amount of time I've been traveling this year), right? Around the end of January.

2 - How can I prove this 2 weeks from Dec 18-Dec 31 of 2017 if I don't have T4 for it? My first paycheck came just in January.

3 - How will I prove the 4 other weeks in Jan 2019? Do I need to wait one more year to receive the respective T4 in 2020?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
1- To be safe do 1 year + 1 month
2- A letter from your manager or HR dept from your company.
Example:
(Department letterhead)

PROTECTED B

To whom it may concern:

SUBJECT: CONFIRMATION OF EMPLOYMENT
This letter is to confirm that (employee name) is employed as a public servant for (department name).

Annual Salary Bilingual Bonus Bi-weekly Pay Hours/week
(amount) (amount) (amount) (number of hours)
Employed since: (date)

Employment type: (ex. indeterminate)

Should you require additional information, do not hesitate to contact (name of supervisor).

Sincerely,

3- the same as item 2.

So just a letter with the dates should be enough even for the dates I don't have T4 for?

I could also give paystubs I guess, but I'm not sure if my employer has it.

Why do you not have a T4? If you started work and was paid for work done in 2017, then you should have been issued a T4, especially if you have actual paycheques issued by the company showing those dates in the year 2017.
If you were not issued a T4, then you cannot claim having worked during that time (UNLESS you were paid as a contractor, and declared that income in your personal tax return as such, which does not seem to be the case).

Hi EstherBarros, sorry for posting in the wrong place.

Hi EstherBarros, sorry for posting in the wrong place.

As I said, if you WORKED during the year 2017, whether for the whole year OR 1 hour only, and got paid by a company, then you should have a T4. It does not matter that the cheque was dated 2018. If the work was done in 2017 and they paycheque shows a period IN or including 2017, there should have been a T4 for the year 2017. If there is not, then your work experience does not count (and you most likely worked "under the table"- you should talk to your employer and rectify this situation so you can amend your taxes from the year 2017).

Why do you need T4 for citizenship form? I haven't seen this is required in the forms. What I'm missing here?
