You were required to notify the visa office about your marriage before landing. You should not have landed. Instead, you should have returned your COPR since it was issued to you when you were single and then processed the paperwork required (including medical and PCC) to add your spouse to your application. Since you landed on a COPR issued to you when you were single without formally adding your new spouse to your application, you can never sponsor your spouse for PR.

Why did you get married 2 days before your landing? Declared during landing is NOT the right procedure. It's clear that you need to notify the VISA Office if you status changed (i.e. getting married and adding a spouse).
Now you can never sponsor your spouse because he/she is NOT consider as a family member because he/she was NOT added to your application properly.

Then is there any value telling the landing officer about changes to family composition? Why do they even ask if they don't tell you all the details there?

That's the LAST chance that they can turn around (yeah fly back home) and choose not to land.

From what I have read on here, it sounds like they are not very clear in telling you this. Granted there could be language barriers and such. But they need to make this crystal clear.
