Hi,

I am just wondering what are the advantages of applying for Parents PR sponsorship vs Super VISA. I understand that Permanent Residency will eventually help them to qualify for citizenship but if they only want to visit a couple of months every year, is it worth it?

On the top of the head, I see the following points to discuss

  • Application fee for PR vs Super VISA
  • Province free Medical benefits Vs private insurance
  • Length of stay
  • Citizenship
  • Canadian government support (Senior benefits, welfare)

I would love to hear your opinion.

For your last bullet (Canadian government support)...

As PRs they most likely won't qualify for a Canadian pension (senior benefit) since they won't have lived and worked in Canada for long enough before retiring. You will also be financially responsible for them for 20 years from the day they land and become PRs. This means that if they go on welfare at any time during this 20 year period, you will be responsible for paying this money back to the government.

Agree with scylla.

And if they are only staying a few months a year, they likely won't qualify for Provincial medical as well. btw dental and prescription medicine is never free.
