Hi Folks,

I got my ITA in July 2017 while my score is 465. I just happened to notice that I made an error in study section while filling up my express entry profile where for one of my WES assessed degree I mention year end as 2012 instead of 2011. I cant change it now but while continuing the application now while i fill in my personal details etc. Am I able to make changes or should I
I decline invitation. Make a new profile and enter pool again. The last thing I want is to get declined due to misrepresentation. I mean i spotted my own error. Was clearly an oversight. My scores dont change though. Please help if anyone has experienced this and got through this. I can always write a cover letter owning up to my error.

You can change it to the correct date, as long as your supporting documents show the same correct date at the time of submission. So what ever date you put in now, must be the correct one as shown on your certificate, If your previous entry was a mistake its not a problem, just correct it.

I just don't know why people throw around the term "misrepresentation" so freely. You do not get accused of misrepresentation for making an honest mistake. Mistakes may lead to a rejection, but not necessarily misrepresentation, which comes with a 5 year ban. Misrepresentation refers to falsifying documents, manufacturing fake unverifiable certificates, etc... things that are clearly orchestrated and deliberate, like creating a fake police report or a fake marriage certificate. I see way too many people on this forum posting about "misrepresentation"; its unnecessary.

Hi lizzy,
Thank you so much. You have put my mind at ease. One more question. I had degree awarded in 2013 for which i started studying in 2007. It was a part time degree and although my certificate awarded shows 2007-2009. The fact is because its a 2 year diploma the certificate states so but the institution allows extension of upto 3-4 years which i used. Hence. Now while filling up my personal history sheet. Should i mention start date as July 2007 and end date as 2013 because thats when i actually finished although the certificate of award says 2007 - 2009?

hmmm,.. well i have not seen a situation like this before. why would an institution put your graduation date so many years behind he actual graduation, its really strange. Was there any mention of 2013 on the certificate?

So its a distance learning degree which allows the flexibility to study from home and give exams as and when they release slots for exams. I was working full time while I pursued this. The expected finish was 2009. But i finished it at snails pace in 2013. So the degree awarded says academic years 2007-2009 but awared in April 2013. Hence in my personal history i want to mention 2013 as i actually gave my last exam in Feb 2013. Is this right?

Well, yes, you should put it honestly in your personal history, however in your education history you must put the date shown on the certificate. You can also include a letter of explanation if the entire arrangement so the CIC officials will understand. Goodluck

Also Lizzy, I have skilled work experience under same NOC code of a total of 5 years but there was a gap in these two companies. I have hence claimed points for my most recent company only which is also giving me employment letter with jobs and duties. Hence i decided to go with that in my express entry before ITA but now post ITA will surely mention in my personal history about my complete experience. Is this the right approach and understanding?

Yes you don't need to claim points for your ENTIRE work history. List the rest in personal history. As for the mistake, as it's not intentional or largely affects your points (such as falsifying IELTS results just to get ITA and then change them later) you should be fine.

Yes, you can go with your current employment only then include your previous employer in your personal history section

Hello, its been over a year since you posted this and i would love to know the outcome. I just got my ITA and i observed a mistake. I concluded my masters in 2017 and it was evaluated by WES but i wrongly stated that it was an ongoing study. I am confused whether to decline invitation or continue. This doesn't affect my crs score in any way. Please advise me. Same applies to my husband. Thanks.

Two things - 1) Call immigration and just ask for your satisfaction and they obviously will guide you better. But to my understanding VISA officers don't really bother for small errors as long as your CRS is not affected by that mistake.

2) Write a letter of explanation (LOE) which is your best option at the time of final submission. I did the same at time of submitting my file. There were no questions asked and I got through. Although I must add mine was a typo error and I had mentioned my degree as completed. In your case you said in Progress which I believe should be fine. In your personal history or education history do write it as completed and LOE should take care of the rest through your truthful acceptance of a genuine error.

CRS is not affected and also logically WES has stamped the fact that degree is complete so Kudos, March on. Don't decline for this reason I would say.
All the best.

Thank you very much. This worked. I wrote LOE and got my PPR in 90 days.
