Hello friends,
My Aor is : 8th june.
Hopefully ll see the movement next month.

I want to clearify some things regarding medical insurance coverage. Please advise as in our case..
My wife is pregnant and expected month of delivery is 1st week of april 2019.
And our medical will expire on 30th of may 2019.
We are looking forward to land in Ontario.(Brampton). As the insurance coverage starts after 3 months of landing..
1-Any idea how can we get rid of high cost of delivery charges if we want to deliver the baby over there ?
2-And how to apply for health card?
3-Can it be done immediately after landing with COPR or else we need to wait for 3 months then apply ?
4-And any idea how much does it costs if one is uninsured and want to deliver over there?
5-what should be the best for us in our case?
Suggestions are welcome.

1- you can't, either you pay through insurance or covered by healthcare
2- you apply when you land
3- you can apply when you land but it won't "work" until 3 months
4- according to forum between 5-10k if without complications
5- move to alberta and stay there because healthcare coverage starts from day one. just give birth in your home country, add your newborn and then move.

not familiar with that. but if you give birth in alberta and leave you still will have to pay back the cost. this is not a way to trick the government

baseline.. you cannot trick and there is no way to escape.. you need to understand even if you do pay or do some trick... there is something called credit history here... that will be ruined... because when you leave without paying.. collection account is opened in ur name after 60-90 days of non payment... and if you don do that... ur history is ruined... forget a house, rental, credit card. bank account etc etc.././ and sometimes even job...

so that being said.. insurance is the way to go.. but an insurance here... there are few visitor ones... may cost u.. but will save u lot of trouble

Does that mean leave Alberta or leave Canada? If they give birth (or incur any other medical cost) in Alberta and then move to say Ontario, do they have to repay the Alberta government?

in all cases wait til you get ppr in the first place. by the 7th-8th month your spouse might not even be able to travel. insurance is possible but i think it would be way too expensive because in this case pregnancy would be a pre-existing condition and obviously taken out to cover delivery costs.
This is the extent of my knowledge on this topic

If you move for some genuine reason like job change etc. you have to repay your healthcare costs? Doesn't sound right.
for some genuine reason, could be. cant confirm or deny. but giving birth and relocating a week after is a no. this has been discussed on the forum before, you can search it to learn more

Leave Alberta.

Yes - if you use the Alberta health care system and then leave soon afterwards and move to Ontario, you can expect Alberta to go after you for the costs of the health care you have used (this will be a higher amount than what it would have cost you to pay for everything yourself).

If you were previously settled, had job, lease, etc. and stayed for over a certain amount of time (depends on the province) yes you can move. In the case of Alberta to Ontario, Alberta would continue to pay your healthcare costs for 3 months before OHIP kicks in. No you can't just move to give birth or you will be asked to repay the cost of delivery. You will have to commit to settling in Alberta. In general trying to play the system it is a bad idea because it will likely cost more than paying for a delivery.

Its not like playing with the system.. What if one wants to deliver the baby over there and stays there for some time... Then wants to relocate somewhere else for job. Is it feasible?
There might be some criteria/timeline which one needs to stay overthere after delivery ...
Any idea
