Hi Everyone,

Hope some of you can help me this confusion. I have one year plus experience in mobile and computer repair company. It's more inclined towards mobile repairs and services for same. So I have narrowed down two NOCs 2282 and 7246.

2282 User support technicians
Matching title - User support technician
In this NOC I have few similar duties but I'm not satisfied with title somehow.

7246 Telecommunications installation and repair workers
Matching title:
  • Shop repairer – telecommunications.
  • Cellular telephone technician.
  • Installation and repair technician – telecommunications.
I feel this NOC suits more due because of my job nature and duties etc I performed.

Now here are my questions:

1) Does duties needs to be matched to one highlighted on NOC page? or anything they cross check with? because I only see duties for some titles where as others are left out. For example in 7246 there are 133 titles and most of them have different duties. So if there anything which they refer to in order to determine if it's a valid NOC or not?

2) Does I need to mention only one of titles listed there or I can use my own like? Mobile and computer repair technician?

3) Does level of your job makes any difference for visa officer? Like shop repairer and all feel like average jobs to me not much qualified as I have two or more post grad degrees.

I hope to get valuable answers from you guys thanks,

Bir

job title does not matter, its the duties which matter and if majority (>50%) of your duties match the duties under the noc code you selected you should be good. level of job does not matter if noc duties match the experience letter.

Thanks for quick reply. If you look at NOC 7246 it have 133 matching titles in it. Not all duties for each occupation are listed. Only 4 major of them are listed there and mine is not there.

--> CIC trusts you, having said that your employer reference letter should mention what you do in the organisation. While drafting it choose one of the titles and try to match your duties as close as you can to the title. Verification will be done from your employer only if required and as they are issuing the letter they will have to own it. Remember the case officer will be someone technical from your field so how will he/she know what you do.

2) Does I need to mention only one of titles listed there or I can use my own like? Mobile and computer repair technician?

--> I would recommend choose one from the list. Title doesnt matters it is the work that your do as mentioned in the reference letter will do the magic trick for you.

3) Does level of your job makes any difference for visa officer? Like shop repairer and all feel like average jobs to me not much qualified as I have two or more post grad degrees.

--> If they have the code in the list it mean Canada needs you. You can be a butcher or barber or cobbler. You need to have the qualification mentioned with regards to the job code.

if you are working in a shop which repairs mobiles and laptops then i dont think 7246 is for you. looks like that noc is for large scale telecommunication installers/setup and repair technitians.
Does that makes difference if I'm doing same work in large or small company? Our company have three different stores? I don't see any other NOC matching my job profile.

1) Your job duties must match 100% with the Lead statement and Substantially with the duties mentioned in the chosen NOC page. One NOC can cover many roles, so as long as your majority duties fall within the NOC duties you are good. Read the lead statement at the top in NOC page, you should be able to identify your NOC. [from your post it seems NOC 7246, you can post your duties and someone here may answer you]

2) Job title Does Not matter at all. You can be called "technical clerk" or anything else but as long as your duties match you will be absolutely good.

3) As per the requirements your NOC type must be 0, A or B category. A Manager of an IT company (NOC type 0) and your NOC (type B) have the equal points and do not carry any extra advantage. No job or noc has any advantage over any job or noc in terms of visa processing criteria or time line. Your education points and work experience points are totally separate, they are not inter dependent if you are not claiming experience points for regulated profession such as doctors, architects etc. You can have phd in telecommunication and still can claim points for noc type B 7246.

what does your company do exactly? does it install or repair telephonic or computer equipment for other companies? for example a software company will have vendor companies which does their telephonic or compter network installation. in that case if you work for the vendor company you will qualify for that noc.

They are just like the normal repair shops where we get's our computer and phones fixed. They also retail parts and stuff which is 50% of their business. Our consumers are normal people and we do have some contracts with insurance company and other companies for their devices repairs diagnosis. I think 2282 User support technicians is one to go as lead statement matches my job profile a lot then 7246.

Yes Lead statement need to match 100% but also duties must match Substantially (some says 60-80% but not official). Write down all duties together and then check which NOC duties closely resemble your duties, ask here or any friends to have a look at it. It does not need to match word by word but should indicate similar work.

Good Luck!

This NOC mainly belongs to Computer and IT systems Users. So you cannot really say you repair mobiles and telecommunication devices. User support technicians are employed by a company to provide 1st line support to the staffs working in that company. For example a school may have an IT system to keep track of students and teachers. This school may have 20 staffs doing this using same computer system. They must have a local area network, printers, scanners, many software, server etc. User support technician will respond to any problem related to computers ann system. If possible he/she will solve it or refer to it experts. If you are supporting your customers to handle computing issues (both hardware and software) then yes you can go for this.

It's a mixture of both computer and mobiles. The company I work have three stores and they been doing this from years. I get what you're saying I have worked as helpdesk technician before and now I'm working as technical support engineer but only job I had for more then a year is this!

If you have luxury to write your own experience letter or even if you can insist your manager/hr then try writing it more inline with the NOC duties. If you think this noc better fits your job then definitely go for it. Don't worry everything will be ok.
