Yep...
Gents,

I had a question which I asked before but I didn't get the answer for it .. hopefully anyone can advise me.

I sent my application, but I noticed I did a mistake in taxes question. Actually I understood Required to file in a different way as I still have outstanding years that I still need to file or still pending, that's why I marked NO, and i marked YES in Already filed.

And now I know my understanding was wrong but is that a big deal and might cause my application to be returned or delay the process ?

If Yes, then what should I do to fix this or clarify that I have no problem with taxes and it was just a misunderstanding.

Appreciate your feedback
When you get your AOR, send the details immediately and update them. Again not sure how as you won't know the address of the office dealing with your case untill they send you a letter or something. Other option would be to call CIC once you get AOR and ask them which office you should send the updates etc. too.

Tax filing history refers the 3 or 5 years prior to your application that you filed income tax returns. They are likely not interested in the actual date you filed those returns, but that you filed returns for those years.

Does anyone know if it makes a difference if you were not required to file a tax return (since there was no income) but you still did anyway for the purpose of citizenship application? In other words for meeting your tax obligations for citizenship, can you file taxes only if you are required to do so?

If you were not required to file taxes, but you still did anyway, it can in no way harm your application (not that I can think of).

I landed in 2018 for 10 days to activate my PR and then left Canada. Returned in 2019 to settle permanently.

However I did file taxes for 2018 despite not having any social ties to Canada. I did not open any bank account, did not have any health card, did not purchase home or anything like that. Only applied for SIN.

So in the citizenship application, I'm assuming that for 2018, I should mentioned NO to the question "Required to File" and YES to "Taxes filed".

Is that correct? Thanks.

Hello members,

I am answering the tax-required part on the form.

In 2017, I was an international student here and I had no job, or income, and my family was just supporting me here.

I also didn't do a tax return. So, for the question, should I answer no to required to file?

Thanks,
