Student + OWP Extension

Hi! I have a question with regards to student permit & owp extension.

1. If I apply for an 8-month program and wants to pursue another diploma (2 years program) in the same school once finished, when do I file for student permit extension? Should I be accepted first in my 2nd chosen program prior applying for extension?

2. Should I apply for student permit extension together with my spouse’s OWP?

3. Do we need to present again financial documents for extension?

4. Will my spouse also get an “implied status” once his OWP expires but with ongoing application for extension?

1. You can't apply for a study permit extension without a basis for needing it, so yes, you need to be accepted to the new program first.

2. Yes, you can apply together.

3. Yes, you will be asked for financials.

4. Yes.

Oh! Thanks for the info. My 8-month program will last until Fall 2019 only and my 2nd chosen program has winter 2020 intake. Is it possible to apply for extension even I am not yet finish with my 8-month program but i do have letter of acceptance already for my 2nd program?

As for financials, will it be the same amount as my 1st student visa application? like 1 year tuition, 10k cad then 4k for accompanying member?

Yes, you can apply when still doing the first program.

Great! Another thing, what if I my student visa was issued already but the document I submitted is for my 8 month program then suddenly my 2 yr program sent me a Letter of Offer. Can I change my program prior landing in Canada? How about visa extension? Should I continue studying my 2 yr program with the length of visa given on the basis of my 8 month program then just apply extension? Thanks.
