Greetings,

I am a PR who works overseas, and my husband lives in Canada. I am currently pregnant and will be heading to Canada when Im early 8 months pregnant. The travel takes around 24 hours, so I dont wanna risk travelling to Canada alone, especially it is my first pregnancy.

Can I apply for my sister to travel with me at this situation? Considering I can support her financially. She has just got her master degree but not yet working.

Please advise. What is the best way to apply in such situation? Thanks,

I see a few issues in your sister getting a TRV approval:
1. Stating a visit to travel with you because you are pregnant.

2. She is young + just finished school + she is not employed + she does not have any assets, etc.

3. Unless she is trained to handle emergency births, not sure how she could help you during the flight.

4. BTW why not consider a direct flight of a much shorter duration?

5. You may want to consider traveling much earlier instead of traveling when you are eight months' pregnant. Do check with your doctor and the airline that you are allowed to fly at that stage of pregnancy

Thank you for the reply.

For an emergency, at least someone I know is accompanying me.

From the middle east to Canada, it is always a veeery long flight and about coming earlier than 8 months, I cant for personal related reasons.

Have you checked whether you qualify for healthcare when you return? Also are you aware that you will have to remain in Canada for quite some time after birth in order to meet the residency requirement for healthcare.

I live in Alberta, and whenever I go there I go to the hospital. Is this what you mean by qualified? or there is something else I may not be aware of.

"Remain in Canada for sometime after birth?" Please clarify. Thanks,

I know I have to be there min 2 years within 5 years, and I am complying with this.

You qualify for healthcare right away in Alberta but you have to remain in Alberta for 6 months and make your home in Alberta or you could be asked to repay any healthcare costs. There are residency requirement for Canadian PR and citizens when it comes to healthcare so people don't only come to Canada to use healthcare and then leave.

Have you ben outside Alberta for 6 consecutive months? That can be an issue as well although most are unaware they must report that they are leaving the province for an extended period of time.

It says, extended period of coverage:
  • 4 years (48 months) for absence due to work, business, or missionary service
What does it mean?

In exceptional circumstances you may be able to keep your coverage. If you have been out of the country for more than 6 months in a year you lost your coverage. If you need clarification about your own status you should contact them directly.
