Hello!
My student visa expires on sept 30. I have a work permit too till sept 30. I know I have to stop working after sept 30th but how long can I wait in Canada legally after that date? I would like to roam little in Canada before I leave. Or do I have have to leave immediately on 30th ?

Hi

Unless you apply to extend your status before your work permit expires, you will be in Canada illegally as of October 1st.

Apply to change your status to visitor.

Ok thank you so much! So I finished my course(9 months) on June 22 so I was working from then onwards and plan to keep working till end of September but my SIN number expires as well on 29th. The same date as my visa. I do want to stay back. What are the options available to me ?

Also I don’t want to stay as a visitor as to my knowledge I cannot work on a visitor visa am I correct ?

What work permit do you currently hold? As you haven't mentioned a PGWP, I'm going to guess that you attended a private college that doesn't qualify for a PGWP and that you currently have a co-op work permit? If so, you have been working illegally, as the co-op work permit is only valid for work that is required to complete your school program. You cannot continue working on this permit after graduation.

You might be working illegally, PGWP is applied online or by flagpolling see your schools international office for details and if you qualify.

I’m not sure if it’s a co-op permit. I have my SIN number which expires on 30th sept.

That is something you really should know. Read what the permit says.

The validity of your SIN is irrelevant.

I understand! I’m thinking of applying to change my status to visitor. Once that process is on I can still work till the status is changed correct ?

No. You likely have a co-op work permit and are working illegally. Again, something you need to find out.
