Health Insurance

So my boyfriend is currently visiting and we're going to apply for a 6 month extension so we can become a common law couple and I can sponsor him. We were wondering though during those extra 6 months where is he supposed to get health insurance? Right now he has travel insurance which provides health insurance but it's going to run out within the next couple of months and we don't know what to do for his health insurance when his travel insurance ends.

Any help will be appreciated.

You could buy more travel insurance. What province are you in?
We can't get travel insurance because it wants him to prove that he has intentions to return to his home country and if our extension gets approved then he won't be returning home so we can't prove it to extend his travel insurance. So we need to look at other options. And my province is BC.

imo, you are overthinking the situation. He is currently a visitor to Canada, regardless of your intent to sponsor him. Until such time as he become a PR, he is still a visitor. When you apply for the travel insurance, include the same length of time as the extension you ask for from IRCC.

Here is literal proof that it states, that if a claim has to be made, he has to have intentions of returning back home.

So no we can't extend our current travel insurance unless he intends to return home.

You dont need to prove anything, you might only need to prove it in the event of a claim, most travel insurance would want you to return home for any long term care. Also there are dozens of insurance companies you can use, just google travel insurance or canadian visitor insurance.
Remember travel insurance is not the same as canadian medical insurance it is mostly for emergencies.
Are six months visa extensions normally granted for visitors?

I would extend it prior to it expiring (assuming there are no claims) for the foreseeable future until he get provincial health insurance. When that happens , you cancel it pro-rata. May have to pay a small admin fees ($25 or so) but this ensures there are no gaps in coverage
