Hello all,

I got an ITA. My work experience that I can provide documents for amount to 2 years and that is what I have claimed points for.
I had worked at a really small company for around 12 months after finishing my engineering degree.
I haven’t claimed points for this, nor have I mentioned it anywhere.
My consultant told me to just say I was unemployed during that year as I have no documented proof of emoloyment ( the employer hasn’t given me payslips or a referral letter or anything )
The only place I had mentioned it was on my old resume which had been used for my H1b application.
Can I say unemployed ? Or would they verify the resume given at the time ?
The reason I want to give unemployed is that apart from not having any documented proof, I had also traveled a lot during that time. The company is run by my fathers friend and he had hired me as a favor. So I was not on the payroll or anything, just more like a remote software engineer intern.
I had been campus placed at HCl Technologies and they said it would takena year before I got called for a job, so my father arranged this trainee position in the meantime.

if you were not on payroll .. . you were technically unemployed. So i think the consultant is right. Employed means you need to have a valid offer / contract with the hiring company.

Ok, so it won’t be a problem? Even though I had it on my old resume that was used for H1B application?

I can't answer for sure whether it would be a problem or not. Mostly it wouldn't matter as they won't see your H1B resume. I'm just saying you can't claim it as work experience as when CIC says work experience they specially mention that it has to be full time work experience with a valid contract.

Oh, I have not claimed it as a part of my work experience, nor do I plan to. I wanted to put it in the personal history when my consultant said say unemployed during that period.

Yep that's what I said . That is the right approach. Show it as unemployed in personal history and do not worry too much.
