ITA received / status about to expiry

Hi!

I came to Toronto with my wife. I am about to finish a Master's, and she is working. We received the ITA a week ago under the CEC stream, and we will be submitting our application on October 8, the latest.

My study permit and her work permit will expire on Nov 30. Her work permit was linked to my application as a spouse of a full-time international student. Now, she is the one who received the ITA, I am the secondary applicant/dependent (spouse).

As the PR application takes around six months to be processed, how should we proceed? Should we apply for my post-graduation work permit in September and try to find a job before November so that she can extend her work permit? Or should she apply for a BOWP and I apply for the post-graduation work permit? We are a bit confused on how the ITA changes our next steps in our immigration status.

I would appreciate your advice if some of you passed through this.

I would apply for PGWP, because it is granted to you automatically and it's your right. Not that the other permits are not your rights, but PGWP is issued very fast and it's open. Then she can go for BOWP.

All the options on the table are open to you guys really. It's your choice and preference. But as I said, if I were in your shoes I'd go for PGWP.

Thank you! You are right, I think I will go for the PGWP and she will apply fo the BOWP. So that she does not depend on me finding a job. And I do not depend on her. We both have a secure option to get a work permit. Thanks again.
