I guess we are a lot in this case ... when I 'chose' the (BC)PNP I did not even know that I would not be able to apply with EE. For me I was just expecting to get 600 more points with PNP and apply for the EE. When I called the BCPNP office and asked what was the difference between the 2 streams (BCPNP and BCPNP EE) the guy was not able to explain me correctly the difference so I thought that the BCPNP EE was when you already applied for EE ... and if not you would have to wait to receive the PNP to apply for EE.
What a surprised when I received the PNP paper stating that you cannot apply for EE with it, then I realised that instead of waiting less than 6 months I would have to wait 16 months (or potentially 19 now) but of course it was too late.
It is such a shame that it takes this long, especially when you have been living in Canada for years, paid taxes and the Province already 'pre-approved' you ... it should be way faster than somebody coming to Canada for the first time or for outland requests.
It is really frustrating but unfortunately nothing we can do apart waiting. Sucks!

Man, when I applied for PNP back in 2015, PNP EE wasn't even a thing (at least in my province).
When I received my PNP I discovered that EE is a thing now, but didn't want to re-apply for PNP, thinking naively that there must be just a couple of months difference between two processes...

How long did it take for you to get it ? A year and a half also?

Well said my friend. Selecting a paper based application was a biggest mistake.
Alberta (AINP)has eaten my 18 months of time. Now federal part taking 18 months of time.

I am wondering why the PNP based application takes more time for background check compare to Express Entry. I am trying to understand how they can process the EE file so fast and why can't they do the same with the paper based application. I am just tired of waiting, its very stressful

Hi everyone.
If you have a chance to apply for EE, then do not apply for PNP, it will take you much more time than EE, even sometimes you have to wait for a bit to reach the cut down of EE. Even in this case, through EE you still can get your PR much sooner than through PNP. It is really true for my case. If I applied through EE last year after I had one year of Canadian experience in October 2017, I would get my PR at least 3 months ago, while through OIPNP I may still have to wait at least 3 months more. I did my PhD in Ontario, Canada and work as a postdoc for almost 2 years so my CRS should be good enough for EE from last October. When I applied for OIPNP last year, I did not imagine that PNP would take us to much time like this. Since OIPNP costs much money so people like us should wait some months more rather than apply again through EE. Please don't go through PNP if you have a chance to go through EE. My AOR was July 24, 2017 and medical passed from April 16, 2018. But the security check has not started yet when I called to CIC last week. I have a son 12 years old and we got stuck with his status more than 2 years because of a mistake when we extended the document for him after we got the status expired. Therefore we hope we can get the PPR ASAP so that this issue will not concerned us anymore.
Best regards and best wish to all.

because that's what Express Entry is - fast-tracked process for highly skilled and economically justified applicants.
