Is a Common Law Sponsorship Visa still valid after application withdrawal?

Hi,

I was being sponsored by my common law spouse and unfortunately things did not work out and we have withdrawn our application. I found a thread which seems to mean that my current two year Work Permit (received due to sponsorship) will still be valid until it's expiry. Is this correct? I want to maximise my time in Canada without accidentally working when I am not allowed to. I am also concerned about leaving / re-entering the country. Any advice welcome!

Yes - your work permit is valid until it expires. However the work permit doesn't guarantee re-entry into Canada. If and for how long you are allowed into Canada is always up to the CBSA agent you deal with at the border. I would limit trips outside of Canada.

Hi Scylla,

Thank you. I am planning a trip to the UK to see my family. Do you think I will encounter any issues re-entering Canada?

You should be OK. However again, ultimately up to the CBSA officer you speak to at the border. Assume you know that you need an eTA to return.
