I got accepted to the Master of Engineering in Building Science program of BCIT. The entire program length is just 16 months which starts from September 4th, 2018 to December 31st, 2019. Am I eligible for a 3 year PGWP or will it be just another 16 months of stayback?

Has anyone got a 3yr work permit for a 16 month course?

Also are the any students to BCIT for this fall?
Please revert ASAP

As per the rules, your PGWP may be valid for up to the same length as your study program. So in your case PGWP will be granted for 16 months. For students with study length of 2 years or more, would be eligible for 3 years of PGWP

how many semesters are there in a 2 year program? and how many months per semester? i’m confused because everywhere i look, programs are listed in semesters. and each semester is about 4 months in length. so if a 2 year program is a 4 semester, and each semester is 4 months each, then a 2 year program is only 16 months total...

Read the footnote at the end in the link below and decide, there are never any guarantees though as all depends on the VO.

What is important for a PGWP is how the institution presents the length of the course whether they issue a completion or graduation letter saying you completed a 16 month course or a 2 year course even if the actual time was 16 months.

However For a masters see footnote at end of link below but never any guarantees

thank you for your reply. so for example, a college says that a graduate certificate program which is 2 semesters long, if the college says that it is a 1 year program, then the student may still be able to get a 1 year pgwp instead of just 8 months?

Hey bro! One academic year in Canada means 2 sems(8 months).Even if you take up 4 sems back to back i.e 2 academic years, you qualify for a 3 years PGWP.I'll be going for a course and all the 4 sems are back to back.My senior who was enrolled in same course got 3 years PGWP in July.So nothing to worry.Good luck.
