Hello,

My mother want to visit Canada in this August. She hold a valid passport and a multi entry visa expired in 2019 Jan. So there's only 5 months left. Although she just intend to visit Canada for only one month, will she be rejected because she's visa valid time is less than 6 months?

Thank you very much.

Will she suffer from more risk than a normal visa expired longer than 6 months?
No her visa is still valid so she can enter. CBSA always decides upon entry how long you are able to stay in Canada but she is fine until her visa expires.

When does your mom's passport expire?

She will only be allowed to stay up to when they both expire (according to Canadian government website). Other countries have a strict 6 months rule, but Canada doesn't.

Hi Members,

I have a similar situation. I am in canada on a work permit which is valid until 2020 and my wife also has a multiple entry visa stamped till April 2020. Howvere at the POE the officer stamped the passport with the date as Dec 6th 2018. First question i have is does this mean i have to extend her visa again before Dec 6th 2018 and the second question is due to some family commitments i will have to visit India in October. Will my wife have problems while coming back to Canada because the officer can then ask why are you coming back with just 1 month of visitor visa. Really worried if i should travel to India or just entend the visa and then travel. Please help in this regard with your valuable inputs.

Thanks.

Your wife's current visitor status is valid until December 6. Her visitor visa/TRV continues to remain valid until April 2020. Visitor status and visitor visa/TRV are two different terms.

Her current visitor status will expire when she leaves in October. She will then be assessed for a new stay/new visitor status when she returns. The length of her new stay will depend on the officer she meets at the POE. She can request a stay until your WP expiry.

No, you don't need to apply for an extension if she leaves in October. If she decides not to go to India in October then you must apply to extend her stay/her visitor status, preferably about a month or so before December 6

Thank you for the reply Bryanna. So does this mean there is relatively less issue if she travels and comes back in October. I was only worried about her being asked as to why she has come back again in less than a month of exiting Canada.

She can apply for a SOWP instead
