Hello,
I currently work in US for a company and it does not exist in Canada. Due to VISA issues, company and I decided mutually to have me work remotely from Canada.
I am currently working towards PR, have written IELTS test. If all go through well and if I get PR, I will be working as independent contractor (1099 based) from Canada.

By any means, can I do anything relevant to claim 200 points allocated for the job offer? I understand I'm not going to work for Canadian employer downstream but willing to know if I should get self employed by starting a company (prior to applying for PR) to link my US contract job as a means of earning salary.

you cant claim points from employment
work remotely from india, with us salary you can live like a king there.
I cannot work from India due to timezone differences, hence Canada is the only option.
I listed some of the options I can proceed with for working remotely - Can anyone shed some advice on which of these is most recommended?
Pl let know any other option apart these 3 as well if that's fruitful.
  1. Remain as a contract worker to US company and get paid in USD but file for taxes in both US and Canada although no double taxation because of the joint treaty. But this will not increase points as I stay in Canada because I'm not working for Canda employer.
  2. Pick an intermediary such as Canadian entity or reliable consultancy who can be paid from US company and who can then pay to me in CAD
  3. Setup a company yourself but would involve lot of work and get it paid through US company on contract.
In this approach, I’m not sure if I can set up a company without getting a PR and can only after I obtain a PR. But there might be some cost associated with setting up the company.

None of these will get the extra points for you.

You can not claim points.
