I'm going to actually send an E-mail to the panel physician and ask him to corroborate what he said that a UCI or IME is required and that only students/visitors/workers can get an upfront medical exam.

I will, however, need some more info.

Those who have had their medical exam done post ITA, did you get instructions/letter or an IME or UCI or simply mentioned you had received an ITA and are required to take the medical exam ?

From the CIC website it only states one can take a medical exam prior to submitting e-APR but not prior to receiving an ITA. I want my challenging of the panel physician's requirement that I have a UCI or IME to be rock-solid.
Let me put in simple:

1. First you create EE application/profile.
2. Based on CRS, you receive ITA.
3. Post ITA, you get 60 days to file PR application.
3.a(i) You file PR application without Medical exam.
3.a(ii) CIC will send you a notification to appear in Medical exam after 10-14 days.
3.a(iii) You book appointment with panel physician and appear for Medical exam and then you upload to CIC. Another 7 days, CIC will say "Medical Passed"
3.b(i) You print ITA pdf and visit Panel Physician for Medicals.
3.b(ii) You get a receipt and you upload this with PR application.
3.b(iii) In 10-14 days, CIC will say "Medical passed"

You save 7 days (I went on holiday to Singapore)

4. Smart move with Medical after ITA before PR application.

Feel wow...

Thank you mrpreetsingh. All clear to me now, so indeed, we have to wait until an ITA has been issued and taking an upfront medical exam will simply depend on whether the panel physician is willing to conduct the exam without showing them instructions from CIC so those who have had an upfront medical exam were basically lucky. At least that's the way I see it.

You saved time and enjoyed a holiday, why not.

One more question though, in the notification to appear for a medical exam from CIC, will there be a UCI or IME ? Thanks

Again wrong, physician is ignorant here if not letting you take upfront medical exam. It's not wish of physician here. Tell physician

IME: Non EDE
Upfront medical type : Worker

Hopefully should understand now.

Thanks, I know. I thought I would challenge him and ask where he's getting that from but it's not really worth it, I'll just do that after getting instructions or at least the ITA and my medical will be valid for longer.

Only possible drawback of having early medical exam is that if you are one among those unlucky applicants to have a long processing exceeding 10+ months for your application, then you will likely need another medical exam. Another drawback is if your application time takes longer, but you get result before your medical expiry, you will have short window to land. Other than that there is no repercussions or legal requirements on having early medical exams.

Cheers Deepcur.

I certainly hope I won't be one of the unlucky ones. For now I'm still struggling in determining my NOC code and that's keeping me up at night worried I'd be getting the wrong one which would result in our application getting refused.
