Does the Canadian government keep record of your different type of application, for example if you were refused outright a sponsorship visa, then applied for a tourist visa to increase the likelihood of acceptance of sponsorship later, could you write that you are not married and ignore the first application?

Yes every visa office keeps record of all the applications made to them including the purpose and every information therein. Please don’t ever think that you can get away with falsifying information, it may result in a permanent ban. Please be aware the countries also share information with other countries so please be consistent and true in whatever you provide in your visa application.

Why was your sponsorship application refused?
How are you related to your sponsor? From your post, it seems like the sponsor is your spouse.

A TRV does not increase the chances of a sponsorship approval.

To answer your questions:
All personal information stated in visa applications is stored electronically and can be accessed by IRCC as-and-when required, even several years later or even if applicants submitted paper applications.

Lying on an application is a huge mistake you wouldn't want to make. IRCC has check processes to determine whether or not every fact that's stated on an application is true.

You wouldn't want to declare you are unmarried/single when you apply for a TRV. You would run the risk of a 5-years' ban for misrepresentation from entering Canada
