Hi All,

I and my wife received passport requests for Canada PR recently. We are supposed to submit the passports in 30 days time. We are close to our 30 years of age and so, we planned to have a baby. And, now my wife is pregnant and carrying for 3 months.

Should I notify CIC about the expected birth.? What would be the CIC telling me to do further? Would I be asked to wait till my child's birth to get passport requests for all three of us or how does it happen usually?

I am in high confusion and need an advise. Kindly help with your thoughts.

Thanks in advance. :) :)

I would not inform them until the baby is born. In my case, my baby was born after we got the nomination letter from Nova Scotia. After I informed them, I was asked to re-submit the PNP application with changed status, birth certificate, passport of the baby etc... Then they resent the nomination letter with my baby name..

Hi

There is no need to tell CIC about the pregnancy.

If your child is born in Canada, she or he will be Canadian. However, depending on when and where you land, your wife may not have medical coverage in Canada for the birth. If you choose to have the child outside of Canada after you become PRs, you will then need to sponsor the child for PR.

Hi Canuck_in_uk,

Thank you for your reply. In the passport request mail that I received, there is a statement as below:

3) Change in Circumstances
Should any of the following circumstances apply to you (or any person included in your application), you must inform this office immediately:
· Change in marital status, for example due to marriage, divorce, annulment or death;
· Death of applicant, dependant of sponsor/assisting relative;
· Birth of a child and/or pregnancy (please provide expected date of confinement);
· Change in health;
· The laying of criminal charges or conviction for a criminal offence;
· A change in availability of funds for use in Canada;
· Change of address or phone number

As mentioned in the third bullet point here, should we notify CIC now?

Yes, you need to inform.

Thank you for your reply.

Okay. I shall do inform. But, what would be the possible reason for which CIC is asking me to notify about my wife's pregnancy?

My PPR letter did not include informing about pregnancy. It only states child birth.
I am not sure if these conditions are different between inland and outland applicants.

Any way, if you have this condition in your letter, then Yes you have to inform them.

In all cases, it is better to plan to have your child born in Canada. If he is born outside, you would have to apply for family sponsorship for the baby (takes minimum 1 year depending where you apply from).

Also, as canuck_in_uk said, keep in mind the medical coverage. Each province has it's own health system. Sometimes you will need to wait 3 months from the day of landing to get you health coverage activated. So better check the website of your province for that information.

Good Luck !

Dear,
Could you please describe shortly how was this case resolved? We are in the same situation, and I don’t know what to expect. Thanks in advance!
