Just Received my PPR, got a family situation, What should I do?

Here is the deal, the EE process took a lot longer than expected, things change , and now here we are.

We just sent out our copy of our passports to ottawa (we are from the US) and we should get our visa some time in the next few weeks I hope. However, my wife is pregnant, 6 months to be precise technically there are no new family members to add to the application so nothing to do there, but also moving to Canada and finding a doctor will be tough as nails (maybe not?) to do in a short period of time.

We are also planning on moving to Vancouver from Seattle and from the looks of it we wont have health care for another 3 months after we move meaning that we will be out of pocket on all medical expenses something we have coverage here in the US for.

So, what do you guys recommend we do? some of my assumptions may be wrong and that could help making a decision.

When did you take medicals for the PR process? Your visa is usually valid for 1 year from the date of medicals or the expiry of passport, whichever is earlier. So if you have more than 6 months for your visa expiry, you can wait till you land in Canada. If not, you can go to Canada, complete the landing process and come back to US. Later, you can move permanently whenever you want.

You can land in Canada and return to the US to have the child. You can then bring your child to Canada as a visitor and sponsor him/her for PR. You cannot sponsor your child from the US. Note that your child may not have access to provincial health coverage while waiting for PR in Canada.

Alternatively, you can hold off on landing, have the child and add him/her to your application.

So, as long as I dont land and wait until the baby is born we can then show up at the border and land with him/her ?

No. As I stated, you would need to ADD the child to the app. This means redoing forms, getting documents, the child's medical, returning your COPRs to be re-issued etc. Expect this to take several months.

I would suggest call IRCC on Monday and ask them what can be done. And yes you need to ad your child to the application. Either go to Canada for delivery and spend money but save yourself from the hassle of adding the child to the application or go to Canada complete your PR landing and return to US to have baby and then add to the app which will take some time.

The highlighted part is incorrect. They need to add the baby in the application before landing. After landing is completed, they need to sponsor the child.

So they must have extended your medicals I guess.

We were in a similar situation and all things considered we decided to have the child abroad after we completed our landing. We moved to Canada permanently a year later and are now going through the family sponsorship with our child. He is with us in Canada as a visitor, something which we need to extend every six months. He also doesn’t have provincial health insurance which is a total bummer as private insurance covers only emergency situations and not regular well-baby visits.
If I had a choice to do it over again I would hold off on landing, have baby abroad, add him to the application and then land all together.

Ok adding the kid seems like a no brainer to me and a much easier step than sponsoring them after landing right?
