Hi,

I have applied my family class spouse PR in last year October. I received my file no in December 2017. Also received my pcc & medical in December. I fulfill all immigration formality in December & file transfer to Canada Delhi office. Still online status shows in process. Is there any one can guide how long more time it take for processing? It’s been more than 7 months.
Awaiting for kind reply.

The immigration department is providing you with a service. If you find it so annoying perhaps your spouse could move to your home country instead?

I think people need to bear in mind that immigration is a privilege, not a right. Try being a bit more grateful that you have an opportunity to emigrate to Canada in the first place instead of complaining.

In the case of family sponsorship, it is a right for a canadian citizen to have his spouse be granted citizenship. why do you make it like we are slaves of the government? Our tax money keeps them alive you know

Pardon? It's not a right at all. It's a privilege. You're not paying any tax money to the government. Just because your spouse does, that doesn't make it a right.

Saying it's a right is just completely and utterly incorrect, regardless of your own personal opinion.

Agreed. I am so surprised that so many people don't understand immigration or any VISA for that matter is a privilege not a right. It's like if somebody knock on my door, it doesn't matter who you are (unless you have a search warrant), I have the full rights to either let you in or deny your entry for whatever the reason I seems to fit, and before I make a decision, I can take whatever the length of the time I want to make that decision.

If you are a Canadian citizen, while voting is your rights, but driving a car isn't.

the spouse of a canadian citizen gets to be a canadian citizen as long as background checks are all good.

That's not quite how it works. First of all, the spouse becomes a permanent resident - not a Canadian citizen. There is no direct path to Canadian citizenship. Secondly, the approval is not just based on background checks - there is also a requirement to prove the relationship is genuine and wasn't entered into for the sole purpose of obtaining PR status in Canada.

While completely unlikely, there is nothing that would prevent the next government from stopping all forms of immigration, should they decide that was their mandate, with a simple change in the law. The Charter of Rights and Freedoms has no clause that entitles a Canadian citizen to sponsor a foreign spouse, or anyone else for that matter.
