All,

I wanted to share my experience of getting the PCC from Indian Embassy located in NY. This might be the same for all Indian Embassies located around the USA.

Download the Application Form - www indiacgny org/pdf/Application_Form.doc

Download the Miscellaneous Application Form and complete it
Attach the following documents
• Current passport in original and photocopies of its first and last pages
• Proof of current US residence address: (copy of any one of -US Driving License / Gas, Electricity, Water or landline telephone bill or Bank statement displaying applicant’s address / House Lease Agreement / State Identification Card)
(Please carry originals of all the supporting documents which you have enclosed with the application. If applying by mail, photocopies of all the supporting documents should be notarized. Do not send any original documents except the PASSPORT. The passport should be sent in original.)
Additional requirements: In addition to the above requirements additional requirements for respective misc. services are mentioned below.
Then along with the fees approach in person at the ConsulateGeneral of India, Consular Wing, 3 East, 64th Street, New York, NY 10065 between 09.15 am and 11.30 am on all working days (Monday to Friday, except Consulate Holidays). The service will be rendered the same day and the delivery of attested documents will be between 12.30-01.00 pm.

You may apply by mail addressed to Consulate General of India, Consular Wing, 3 East, 64th Street, New York, NY 10065. The necessary service fees should be sent by money order/cashier's check/certified check. In addition, for return postage, you may either send a trackable pre-paid return mailing envelope (USPS 'Express Mail') or enclose a money order/cashier’s check/ certified check for US$ 25 payable to Consulate General of India, New York. Personal cheques, debit and credit cards or other banking instruments are not accepted. The documents will be returned in 10 business days.

Note: Passports issued/renewed in NY get same day service. I was in @ 9:30 AM and received the documents @ 12:00 PM. Fees - $28 per person in cash (preferable. Please carry exact change.). Overall a smooth procedure.

The lady was honestly a little rude (expected from Indian Embassy) - I asked this question for a few friends who had Passports issued from India and she said anywhere between 30-45 days, though a friend got it withing 2 weeks.

It'll depend how recently your passport was issued. If it was issued recently, you can get report real quick, may be same day. But if it was issued sometime in 2008 or so, and if the police clearance isn't available in the system, they would initiate new verification request to the indian address that's listed in the passport.

Sorry dude but I really don't agree with you on that when you say 'expected this from Indian Embassy'. I have been to Indian Embassies in a few countries around the globe and let me tell you that the staff is extremely nice and helpful. They try their best to help you despite the fact that they have a lot of workload on them, especially in a country like the US which has a lot of Indian population. Just because of one rough experience you cannot and should not generalise things.

No photos required. The person at the counter will ask you the purpose for requesting the Indian PCC. There is no field on the Application Form for this. They will just make a note of it on the application form and sign it and pass it on to the Senior Officer. Once you receive your PCC, there will be a stamp inside your Passport which says - Police Certificate issues for "Canada Immigration"

I think the best option is to go in person and collect it the same day. I did the same last week

I have no idea about that. You can take her docs though along with marriage certification and a self attested form from her that you are submitting on her behalf and see if they accept

I applied via mail in NYC a couple of months ago.

1. Only the new passport is required
2. I remember sending only the bio pages from new passport (first page and last page) + latest US Visa page.
3. My passport was renewed in NYC, so I took a money order for $27. My wife's passport was from India, so I took a money order for $42.
4. Self-attested

The processing was quick and I received the PCC within a week.
I just mentioned "Immigration" as the reason for PCC. So, I got a call from embassy asking which country am I applying for and confirmed that I will receive the PCC in two days.
